Box Score

WACO, Texas - Baylor's offense scored six runs in the third, while its pitchers held UT-San Antonio hitless through five innings as the eighth-ranked Bears coasted to a 9-0 win at Wolff Stadium despite near-freezing temperatures Wednesday night.

Mark McCormick started for the Bears (9-3) and went the first three innings without giving up a hit, striking out four but walking three. Sean Walker (1-1) followed with two perfect innings; Ryan LaMotta, Russell Reichenbach and San Antonio Reagan product Andy Pape finished out the game.

Baylor batted around in the third inning, knocking out UTSA starter Lucas Stewart (0-1). Five different Bears drove in runs in the inning as Baylor jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the Roadrunners (4-7).

Two innings later, LaMotta gave up a hit to the first batter he faced in the sixth, shortstop Ryan Crew, ending the Bears' bid for a no-hitter. UTSA finished the night with only three hits.

In the sixth, Ross Bennett doubled in two runs after two were out, and Michael Griffin followed with a double to drive home Bennett with the Bears' ninth run. The double was one of Bennett's four hits on the night, tying his career high.

Freshmen Seth Fortenberry made his collegiate debut in the game, starting in center field in place of senior Chris Durbin. Durbin was unavailable for the game after being caught out of town when Tuesday's ice storm hit, snapping a streak of 133 straight starts and 136 games played that dated back to Durbin's freshman year, 2000.

Freshmen Kevin Sevigny also made his collegiate debut, walking in a pinch-hit appearance in the ninth.

Baylor hits the road on the weekend for a three-game series at UC-Irvine. Games are set for 8 p.m. Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday (all times Central).
