How to become a member of the 2008-2009 Baylor Spirit Squads?

Step One: Application and fee

Step Two: Attend Optional Interest Clinic (each clinic you attend is $25.00)
Saturday, January 19 and or Saturday, March 1

10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Ferrell Center

Yell Leaders will learn the Baylor Fight Song, Stunt, and Tumble

Songleaders will learn the Baylor Fight Song, Technical moves

Mascots will work in costume

Step Three: Sign Up for Selection Process
You will be signed up for the Selection Process once we have received your Application, Fee, and Release form

What does the Selection process include?

Step One: Attend the Mandatory Meeting
Friday, April 4 at 3: 00 p.m. at the Ferrell Center

Provide proof of health insurance (copy of your card at the Mandatory meeting)

You will be signed up after we receive your application and fee

Step Two: Interview process
Personal Interview on Thursday, April 3 for returning members and current Baylor students and Friday, April 4 for incoming students at the Ferrell Center

Step Three: Fitness Test (pass/fail test and you must pass all 3 parts to continue in the selection process)

Friday, April 4 at 4: 00 p.m. at the Ferrell Center (Wear running shoes)

Complete a one mile run within 9 minutes

Perform 35 crunches within 1 minute

Perform 20 push ups within 1 minute

Step Four: Attend Selection Mandatory Clinics for All Spirit Squad members:
Friday, April 4 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Ferrell Center
Yell Leaders-Learn material, stunt, tumble
Songleaders-Learn material and practice skills
Mascot-Practice skit in costume
Time 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Additional Clinic for Songleaders-learn and practice skills

Songleaders Saturday, April 5

Double and Triple Pirouettes, Right Fouettes, Right and Left high kick
Switch Leap, Switch to second, second Leap
Fight Song, Jazz Combo, Hip Hop Combo

Mascots Sunday, April 6
6:00 p.m. until finish
Skills for Mascot
Create and implement a 2 minute skit
Improv with given situations and objects

Step Six: The selection process will conclude after the skills evaluation with a panel of judges that may include the Director of Spirit and Athletic Traditions, Cheer coach, Songleader coach, and outside evaluator(s) that will use information from each step mentioned above to make the determination of what is the best fit for each team. The overall attitude and ability to work with others as demonstrated through this process along with their potential to be an outstanding Ambassador for Baylor will also be a contributing factor in the final decision making process. All decisions are final. The results will be posted on the outside door of the Ferrell Center as soon as they have been determined. The entire Selection Process is closed to the public. Thank you for respecting our guidelines.

In the event that you are unable to attend the Selection Process you will need to contact Susie Oliver, Director of Spirit and Athletic Traditions, no later than March 15, 2008.

Baylor Co-Ed Yell Leaders and Songleaders for 2008-2009 will have a Celebration and Sizing Meeting on Saturday, April 5 at 8:00 p.m. at the Ferrell Center. Please, only newly selected members may attend.

Baylor All-Girl Yell Leaders and Mascots for 2008-2009 will have a Celebration and Sizing Meeting on Sunday, April 6 at 8:00 p.m. at the Ferrell Center. Please, only newly selected members may attend.

What should you wear?
Interview process- dress for a professional interview
Fitness test-running shoes and athletic shorts and tank/t-shirt
Skills Evaluation- solid green or black shorts and solid white long fitted tank for women and men solid black, green, gold, or white t-shirt (Songleaders need tennis shoes and jazz shoes)

Women will need to keep in mind that appearance will also be judge throughout the Selection Process and you should appear at all events with appropriate make-up and hair style.

All tattoos should remain covered at all times!

Absolutely NO jewelry should be worn at any event with the exception of the interview.

Please do NOT wear clothing with logos on them especially those from other schools. Baylor or BU on your clothing is fine for clinics and fitness testing

Please no gum
